The Volcano House is located on the rim of Kilauea Crater in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Its Hawaii's oldest continuously operating hotel, first built in 1846 by Benjamin Pitman Sr.
Originally it was constructed as a grass house, and was eventually rebuilt 4 times over 95 years;
each time incorporating more sturdy and long-lasting materials. The latest incarnation of the
Volcano House dates from 1941, after a fire took out much of the main building. This placemat from
the Volcano House dates from the 1968.
