The Caribe Hilton, built in 1949, was the first large luxury hotel in Puerto Rico, and also the first Hilton hotel built outside of the Continental US.
Its said that the Piņa Colada was created here, by bartender Ramon "Monchito" Marrero, at the hotel's Beachcomber Bar back in 1954.
There have also been several other claims as to when & where the cocktail was invented, though (one reference as early as 1922)... more info on the Piņa Colada and its origins & earliest references can be found here.
